Latest technologies, developments and a wide range of products and equipment were showcased at the recent Propak Cape 2011 and co-located shows, held at the Cape Town International Conference Centre (CTICC) in Cape Town.
Propak Cape 2011 together with FoodPro, Pro-Plas Expo, Pro-Label Cape and Print Expo brought exhibitors together across the various sectors enabling visitors from Cape Town and throughout Southern Africa to engage with the most progressive companies in the country.
Exhibition Manager, Michelle Bedser, says she’s delighted with the positive outcome of the show with increased numbers for both visitors and exhibitors over the previous show in 2008. “Exhibition space was sold out months before the show and we even had a waiting list of Companies who were hoping for any cancellations, which didn’t happen.”
“The co-located shows covered a broad spectrum of packaging, food processing, printing, labelling and plastics, providing exhibitors with an excellent opportunity to generate sales and sales leads as well as valuable business networking.”
“Our visitor numbers also increased with visitors not only from the Cape Town and Western Cape region but also from a wide geographic spread across South Africa and Southern Africa. Exhibitors commented on the high quality of visitors and the success achieved at the show,” said Bedser.
Visitor numbers increased by almost 7% over 2008 figures with 5,727 visitors attending the shows over the three-day period and pre-registered visitors accounted for almost 35% of the inflow of people, showing increasing popularity over previous years.
Geographically, just on 20% of visitors were from outside the Western Cape with over half travelling from Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal in addition to the Free State Province, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Limpopo and North West Province. International visitors travelled from Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya and Libya in addition to the UK, Europe, USA, Brazil and China.
49% of all visitors were owners, Managing Directors, Directors and senior management with purchasing decision-making responsibilities. The majority of visitors had influence over decisions made with regards purchasing.
Bedser concluded by saying that “many of our exhibitors have already signed for Propak Cape 2014 based on their successes achieved this year.”
Running concurrently with Propak Cape was The Institute of Packaging South Africa (IPSA) Gold Pack Awards with a dinner banquet for 500 guests andIPSA Western Cape Region hosted a breakfast seminar focusing on the challenges and rewards of doing business in Africa.
